On Tuesday, a contested race developed for the mayor’s seat in Selma.
Town Councilman William E. Overby formally filed for mayor and will challenge two-term incumbent Cheryl Oliver in November.
Overby said his campaign will focus around six key issues: public safety, easy access to information for citizens, jobs and economic development, healthy and sustainable communities, customer service, and performance.
Oliver has served as Selma’s mayor since 2011.
In other filings on Tuesday, Tommy Holmes filed for his second term on the Selma Town Council. Johnny Eason filed for a second term on the Wilson’s Mills Town Council. Curtis Dean McLamb filed for the District 1 seat on the Benson Town Board.
