Contested Race Develops For Smithfield Town Council

A contested race has developed for the Smithfield Town Council, after four candidates filed this week for three At-Large Council seats.

Steve Rabil, the owner of a local taxi company, filed Thursday afternoon. He joins another political newcomer, Charles Snyder who filed on Wednesday.

Two incumbents, Emery Ashley and Charles A. Williams both filed for their second terms Monday on the council.

Andy Moore currently holds the third council seat but he is running for mayor. Mooreis being challenged by Jim Snyder.  Current Mayor John Lampe recently announced he would not seek a second term.

The filing period for all municipal elections in Johnston County remains open through Noon on Friday, July 17th.  The municipal elections take place on November 3rd.
