Convicted Bank Robbery Indicted For Robbing Johnston County Business

SELMA – A man who served more than 12 years in prison for bank robbery has been indicted for the robbery of a Johnston County Family Dollar. Eugene Warren Scott, age 57, of Stancil Street, Smithfield was arrested April 7, 2022 for a holdup at the Family Dollar at 107 N. Pollock Street in Downtown Selma.

Selma Police allege Scott walked into the store at 11:11am, approached an employee working the checkout counter and demanded she empty the register. No firearm was displayed, however a weapon was implied.

The suspect reportedly told the clerk, “Don’t play with me. You got three seconds.” After being handed $333 in cash he fled in a getaway car parked nearby.

Selma and Smithfield Police located Scott a few hours later at his West Smithfield home. The getaway car was parked in the driveway, police said.

A Grand Jury in Smithfield recently indicted Eugene Warren Scott for common law robbery. A trial date has not been set.

In November 2010, Scott was sentenced to 151 months in federal prison in Baltimore, Maryland Scott for the May – June 2009 robberies of America’s Bank, PNC Bank, CVS Pharmacy, and Family Dollar, all in Baltimore. He had prior convictions at the time for possession with intent to distribute cocaine and robbery with a dangerous weapon. Scott was released from federal prison in September 2020.
