Convicted Murderer Paroled

A Johnston County man convicted in 2003 for the murder of his girlfriends brother has been paroled.

In January 2003, Tony Ray Holder was 19 year-old when authorities said he shot and killed Ricky Cornelius Sanders Jr., 24, of Selma at the Riverview Apartments on Ricks Road in Selma.  Holder fled to his mother’s home in the 9000 block of Buffalo Road. Following a 12 hour standoff with the Johnston County Sheriff’s Office, Holder was shot with a non-lethal beanbag fired from a deputies shotgun.  He was taken into custody without further incident.

Holder was convicted of second-degree murder and first-degree kidnapping in November 2003 and sentenced to 16 years and 5 months behind bars.  According to the NC Department of Corrections, Holder, who is now 33, was paroled last week after serving 13 years and 5 months of his sentence.
