A federal grand jury in Raleigh has indicted a 35 year-old man on illegal reentry charges. According to a press release from the US Attorney’s Office, Eduardo Aguilar-Arellano of Mexico was previously deported following an aggravated felony conviction of second-degree rape.
Aguilar-Arellano was found in Four Oaks in June 2018. He was held on an ICE detainer for allegedly reentering the United States illegally.
Due to the aggravated felony conviction, Aguilar-Arellano could face a maximum 20 years in federal prison and a $250,000 fine if convicted, according to the news release from Robert J. Higdon Jr., United States Attorney for the Eastern District of North Carolina.
The case is being investigated by ICE’s Enforcement and Removal Operations and Homeland Security Investigations.
