Copper Wiring Stolen From Two New Homes Under Construction

BENSON, N.C. — The Johnston County Sheriff’s Office is investigating after thieves stole thousands of dollars worth of copper wiring from two homes under construction near Benson.

The thefts were reported July 7 at two homes on Pierre Drive, located off Benson-Hardee Road.

Representatives with Dream Finders Homes of Fayetteville told deputies someone removed copper wiring that had already been installed.

An estimated $1,200 worth of wiring was stolen from one home, while approximately $5,000 in copper wiring was taken from the second residence, bringing the total reported loss to about $6,200.

Copper thefts have long been a recurring problem at construction sites because of the metal’s resale value. In addition to the cost of the stolen materials, builders often face delays and added expenses to replace damaged wiring before construction can continue.

No arrests have been announced.
