Corinth Holders High senior Samara Gibson was recognized by the Johnston County Board of Education for receiving the Heart of a Champion award.
Gibson is one of only 19 student-athletes from North Carolina High School Athletic Association (NCHSAA) member schools to be honored for her outstanding sportsmanship as a winner of the “Heart of a Champion” recognition.
Nominees must have participated in at least one varsity sport or activity, including cheerleading, during the 2016-17 school year, have not been ejected from any contest, and must have demonstrated outstanding citizenship and sportsmanship during their high school careers.
Gibson was nominated by Corinth Holders High teacher, Peter Clark. Clark described Gibson as someone who is a champion on and off the field, an excellent teammate and someone who makes her school and community better.
Gibson was the CHHS Senior Class President and was also the recipient of the Tom Suitor Extra Effort Award. She is a four-year conference champion sprinter on the CHHS Pirate Track team and holds records in the 55 meter, 100 meter, 200 meter, 300 meter, 400 meter, and 500 meter sprints.
