Smithfield Police are encouraging businesses and residents to be on the lookout for more counterfeit money.
Police Chief Michael Scott said a female customer attempted to pass two counterfeit $10 bills at the Dollar Tree on North Brightleaf Boulevard on Wednesday. The woman said she had received the money after selling furniture on CraigsList. Police did not charge the woman.
In March and May of this year, counterfeit $50 bills were passed at stores in Smithfield and Selma.
In April, more counterfeit $10 bills were passed.
In July 2014, seven counterfeit $100 bills were passed in Smithfield.
