Several businesses reported receiving counterfeit money during transactions this week. Authorities have not ruled out some of those could be connected.
On Tuesday, a counterfeit $50 bill was passed at McDonald’s on US 70 in West Smithfield. A counterfeit $50 bill was discovered Wednesday at Starbucks on South Equity Drive in Smithfield. A bogus $50 bill was also discovered Tuesday at Lowes Foods on Highway 42 West at Highway 50. The same serial number was discovered on the bills passed at Starbucks and Lowes Foods.
Five counterfeit $20 bills were passed Tuesday at Sketchers on Outlet Center Drive.
