Political Signs Disappearing Across The County
A political candidate says someone is stealing her political signs and also following her.
Wendy Ella May of Selma, a Democratic candidate for the Johnston County Board of Commissioners, reported Monday to the Johnston County Sheriff’s Office someone had stolen 3 of her campaign signs and six Joe Biden for President signs she had placed beside the road in the Micro area. May previously reported signs along Highway 301, Highway 39 North and US70 Business had been stolen.
In a phone interview Wednesday, she alleges she is being followed. “Somebody has been following me in a blue pickup. He has been following me for about 2 to 3 weeks now. I had to call down to the Sheriff’s Office. I think it is a PI (private investigator) hired by the Johnston County Republican Party. I have 20 years in law enforcement and I am not stupid. I know when someone is trailing me. I just wish I could get a picture of them. Eventually I will.”
“I have been thru this rodeo before. Someone is so fearful the old guard is going to get thrown out they act this way, especially from someone calling themselves a Christian.”
Trump, Forest Signs Quickly Disappearing
The Johnston County Republican Party says Donald Trump signs are disappearing across the county almost as quickly as they go up.
“We can’t keep a Trump sign up more than 24 hours,” said GOP Chairman Darryl Mitchell. “We can’t keep Trump signs up anywhere. They are removed, taken down or knocked down. Dan Forest signs are being wiped out. In the same spot, they are being replaced by Democratic signs.”
Tuesday night, one Trump sign was vandalized and spray painted “BLM” for Black Lives Matter.
Thefts In Princeton And Benson

A 78 year-old Benson man said someone stole items from his front yard on Benson-Hardee Road between Sunday and Monday. Among the items were a Trump 2020 flag and an American flag taken from a collapsible flag pole along with a LED light affixed to the top of the pole. The items were valued at $260.
