Only 47 votes separated two candidates on Tuesday running for the Johnston County Board of Commissioners.
In the race for the District 1 seat being vacated by retiring Commissioner Jeff Carver of Clayton, Fred Smith received 9,582 votes to Michelle Pace Davis with 9,535 votes, in unofficial results.
Johnston County Board of Elections Director Leigh Anne Price confirmed Tuesday night after all the precincts had reported, 235 provisional ballots still need to be tabulated.
The provisional ballots will be counted by the Board of Elections on March 12th at 4:00pm. Until those ballots are tabulated, Mrs. Price said the race remains too close to call between the two candidates.
