County Commissioners Accepting Applications For Vacant District 4 Seat

The Johnston County Board of Commissioners is accepting applications from interested citizens to be considered for appointment as a Johnston County Commissioner representing County Commissioner District 4. Monday night, Commissioner Larry Wood of Benson announced he was resigning from the board effective February 28, 2022.

Under state law, to be eligible for appointment to fill a vacancy, a person must be a member of the same political party and be a resident of the same district as the member being replaced. Therefore, applicants must be a registered Republican and reside within County Commissioner District 4.

Interested citizens are encouraged to contact the Johnston County Board of Elections Office at (919) 989-5095 to verify that they reside within County Commissioner District 4 before applying. Applications will be date and time stamped at the time of receipt. Applications may be mailed via U.S. Mail. It is the responsibility of the applicant to ensure their application is received no later than 5:00 p.m. on March 11. Applications received after 5:00 p.m. on March 11 will not be accepted regardless of the reason.
