Johnston County has collected 99.80% of real and personal property taxes billed to county property owners during the 2014-2015 fiscal year.
On Monday, Johnston County Tax Administrator Sheila Garner presented Commissioners with figures that showed Johnston County had the highest overall collection rate among counties with a population greater than 100,000 people. She also noted the county ranked third in the state as determined by the N.C. Department of State Treasurer.
Garner reported $101,606,910.12 in taxes were levied this past fiscal year with a success rate of 99.80% collected or $101,400,615.32 .
“I would like to express my appreciation to the large majority of taxpayers in Johnston County who made it a priority to pay their tax bills on time,” Garner said.
In addition to the current year tax bills, $573,035.32 in prior year’s taxes was also collected.
“I would like to sincerely thank the tax office staff,” said Garner. “I recognize and appreciate their hard work and dedication. They do an excellent job of assessing and collecting tax, while remaining committed to sustaining exceptional customer service relations with the taxpayer.”
“This reflects how well our citizens pay their bills and, of course, how well we collect our taxes,” added Commissioner Jeff Carver.
