Couple Killed In Wrong-Way I-40 Crash Identified

BENSON – The names of two people killed by a wrong-way driver on Interstate 40 in Johnston County was released today. The collision occurred March 9th around 9:50pm near the 315 mile marker.

Nicholas Glenn McGee, 24, of Fuquay Varina was reportedly driving eastbound in the westbound lanes of I-40 when his Toyota pickup slammed head on into a Dodge Durango SUV.

McGee was ejected from his truck as it overturned in the median and died at the scene. The Durango burst into flames and came to rest on a concrete guardrail. Firefighters put out the fire and found two people inside the SUV.

On Tuesday, the NC Medical Examiner’s Office identified the two victims as Jerardo Trevino, 30, of Durham, the driver, and a passenger, Savanna Lynn Ray, 23, of Wake Forest, his girlfriend.

The State Highway Patrol continues to investigate the crash. Officials suspect McGee may have been impaired at the time of the collision.
