Crash Closes Section Of Highway 70 For Three Hours

Westbound lanes of Highway 70 near the Johnston-Wake County line were closed following a serious collision this morning (Saturday). Johnston and Wake County first responders were dispatched to the 7:00am accident.

A westbound driver was attempting to turn into a private driveway and was struck by another westbound truck. The first truck was pushed and flipped over into a deep ditch while the second truck, towing a loaded trailer, drove over the first truck and ended up on top of the overturned first truck.

The driver of the overturned truck was trapped inside the wreckage until being extricated by Clayton and Garner firefighters. The driver was transported to the hospital with non-life threatening injuries.

Highway 70 westbound traffic was stopped and eventually detoured for about three hours. The State Highway Patrol is investigating the crash.
