The Bizzell Grove Church Road Bridge over Interstate 95 near Micro reopened today (Thursday) to limited access traffic. It had been closed since April 4th when an oversized truck trailer traveling on I-95 South struck the bridge and caused structural damage.
For safety purposes, lanes on the bridge have been temporarily narrowed in anticipation of upcoming final repairs. That means only cars will be allowed across the bridge for now, with no buses or trucks. Local emergency services and the school district have been notified of the change in the bridge status.
Plans for those emergency bridge repairs are being finalized. It is hoped a contractor will be hired and on the job by the end of the month.
Until those repairs are completed, the detour that has been in place since the closure will remain in place. It will send larger vehicles onto US 301, Micro Road and Lowell Mill Road to get around the restricted access. JoCoReport.com File Photo
