SMITHFIELD – Deacon Jones Auto Group and WKJO Country Superstars 102.3FM held a Pickup Pool Party on June 19th and raised $1,700 for two local non-profit agencies. During the event, the radio station broadcast live from the dealership on N. Brightleaf Boulevard. Visitors had a chance to win one of several prizes and drop off their spare change.
A total of $1,700 in donations were received. Harbor House was presented with a check for $850 and the Smithfield Rescue Mission a check for $850.
According to 102.3FM, there are 22,700 people who are food insecure in Johnston County. Of that number, 9,320 are children under age 18. Increased isolation due to COVID-19 has led to an increase in domestic violence and the need for more families to seek shelter and assistance.
