Death Of 4 Year-Old Child Ruled Accidental Drowning

On Thursday, the Johnston County Sheriff’s Office ruled the death of a 4 year-old child as an accidental drowning.  Around 1:50pm Wednesday, the child was playing in the backyard of a home his parents had just purchased at 2049 Lizzie Mill Road, just outside the Selma city limits, when he fell into a small 8×8 goldfish-type pond and drowned.

Emergency crews performed CPR on the child more than an hour but life saving efforts were not successful.

Johnston County Sheriff’s Captain Jeff Caldwell said the family had recently purchased the property and were in the process of renovating the home.

As standard procedure, an autopsy will be performed.  Photo by JoCoFire.com
