Death Of Pregnant Woman Found In Car Ruled A Homicide

The NC Medical Examiner’s Office on Friday ruled the death of a pregnant woman found in her car as a homicide.

At 11:16pm Wednesday, Wayne County Communications received a call reporting a female was slumped over in a vehicle near the intersection of Pikeville-Princeton Road and Nahunta Road in western Wayne County. As emergency personnel were responding to the scene the call was upgraded to a car crash.

Deputies arrived to find a car in the ditch with a woman dead inside the vehicle.

On Friday, the Wayne County Sheriff’s Office said a preliminary autopsy indicated the victim died as a result of a homicide.

The woman was identified as 29 year-old Cassia Renee Deval. “Miss Duval was pregnant and the fetus did not survive,” according to a news release.

“As concerning as this case is, the Wayne County Sheriff’s Office wants to inform citizens living in this area there is no concern for their safety dealing with this investigation. Due to the sensitivity of this case/investigation, no further information is being released at this time,” the release stated.
