WAYNE COUNTY – The Wayne County Sheriff’s Office is conducting a death investigation after responding to a late-night burglary call.
Around 9:40pm Friday, deputies were dispatched to a reported breaking and entering that had already occurred at a residence located at 877 Big Daddys Road in northern Wayne County.
The individual who reported the break-in also notified Wayne County 911 that a male, known to the caller, was found unresponsive inside the residence and was bleeding.
After arriving on scene, officers discovered 39 year-old Robert Lee Mitchell inside the residence suffering from an apparent gunshot wound. Wayne County EMS responded to the scene and after examining the victim, declared him deceased.
Detectives with the Wayne County Sheriff’s Office were notified and responded to the scene and have begun their investigation.
Authorities said the investigation is in the early stages and additional information will be released as it becomes available.
