SAMPSON COUNTY – An Amazon delivery van was rear-ended by a hit and run driver. The accident was reported at 12:52pm Wednesday in Sampson County.
According to the Highway Patrol, the Amazon van was traveling southbound on Welcome School Road, and was slowing to make a delivery, when a 2006 GMC Yukon, also traveling southbound, failed to reduce speed and struck the rear of the van. The driver of the GMC fled from the accident scene on foot. Witnesses reported the hit and run suspect was armed with some type of rifle.
A manhunt was conducted by the NC State Highway Patrol, Sampson County Sheriff’s Office, Clinton Police, and Sampson County Emergency Management. The suspect was identified but eluded law enforcement. Warrants were obtained against the suspect.
