Demonstration Planned In Clayton As Part Of National Day Of Protests
CLAYTON, N.C. — A rally is planned Saturday, March 28 in downtown Clayton as part of a nationwide day of demonstrations, reflecting ongoing political divisions across the country.
Indivisible Johnston County will host the event from 1 to 4 p.m. at Clayton Town Square. Organizers say the gathering is one of more than 3,000 protests planned nationwide.
The event is expected to include speakers and a brief march through downtown.
Mary Blank, co-leader of the group, said the rally is intended to provide an outlet for residents who want to express concerns about national issues and government policies.
Supporters of the current administration and others with differing political views have expressed opposition to similar protests, saying they disagree with the characterization of national conditions and policy direction.
Scheduled speakers include Pat LeGrand, a candidate for the North Carolina Senate; Debbie Herrera, a community advocate; Scott Peoples, a military veteran; and Dr. L’Bertrice Solomon, a candidate for the North Carolina House.
Organizers said the event will follow a commitment to nonviolence.
