HARNETT COUNTY – Investigators with the Harnett County Sheriff’s Office are searching for the person or people responsible for smashing several vehicle windshields along the southern corridor of N.C. Highway 210.
Windows started getting smashed last year and have continued ever since, with the last shattered windshield reported on Tuesday morning.
“We had 20 or so cases in 2023,” said Harnett County Sheriff’s Office Captain Joseph Webb.
The department received reports of three more this year.
“We have conducted several operations trying to catch the person,” Webb said. “We are actively working the latest three cases.”
ReVamp Auto Glass, of Lillington, has helped several customers replace their windows from the attacks.
Someone is “still targeting vehicles and windshields,” a company representative posted on Facebook with photos of the latest target, a C&J Auto Sales truck. “We recently learned they are also targeting vehicles with flashing lights, tow trucks, police cars, ambulances, fire trucks. This is very dangerous and is also happening not only during the day, but during the night as well. Seems to be most common between Loop Rd and Elliott Bridge Rd from what we’ve been told. Whatever is being launched or thrown at the vehicles is not small, this is major impact!! This could potentially kill someone!!”
Anyone with information on the case is asked to contact the Harnett County Sheriff’s Office at 910-893-9111 or its tipline at 910-893-0300.
Highway 210 runs through Angier, Lillington, Shawtown, Flat Branch, the Anderson Creek area and part of Spring Lake in Harnett County.
