Officer Derek Anthony Leagan has joined the Smithfield police force. Officer Leagan was officially sworn in by Mayor Andy Moore on March 2nd during the monthly town council meeting.
Legan has six years of law enforcement experience having worked with the Town of Burgaw and City of Wilmington police departments. He recently moved to Smithfield with his family and was hired by the Smithfield Police Department. He will be assigned to the Patrol Division to fill an existing vacancy.
Officer Leagan says he looks forward to serving the community. In his free time he enjoys weightlifting.
