Deron George Signs To Play At St. Augustine University

Smithfield Selma High School athlete Deron George has signed to play football for St. Augustine University. He becomes the first member from his immediate family to go to college.

Deron will now further his education and football career in Raleigh with the NCAA Division II football program.

As a SSS Spartan, Deron had 55 rushes for 466 yards and one touchdown. He had one reception for 10 yards and completed four passes for 100 yards.  Defensively he recorded 50 tackles.  Deron also returned 19 kickoffs for 398 yards including one for a touchdown.

Coach Mike Parrish said, “As a coach I would like to express the pride that I as well as our program, school and community have for these young men.  This is what makes all we do worth it. Deron is a freakishly fast and talented athlete, who will likely see the field early at St. Augustine.  He will be featured as a slot receiver and kick returner.”
