SAMPSON COUNTY – First responders are on the scene of a two vehicle accident involving an overturned Sampson County Public Schools fuel delivery truck. It happened Tuesday morning on Maxwell Road.
The fuel truck had reportedly just left Clement Elementary School and was traveling towards Clinton when the vehicle overturned.
A pickup truck traveling on Maxwell Road was struck by the fuel truck before it came to rest on its side.
The tanker truck was loaded with approximately 1,700 gallons of diesel fuel.
Due to the fuel leak, a regional hazmat team from the Fayetteville Fire Department responded.
Crews are working to pump the remaining fuel from the overturned truck and clean up the diesel fuel that spilled into a ditch.
Maxwell Road is expected to be closed for much of the day.
The accident is under investigation by the Highway Patrol.
