Johnston County Schools Digital Learning Team recently brought some exciting technology to the students at North Johnston High by offering a “Lunch, Laugh and Learn” session.

The Digital Learning team works primarily with teachers to introduce new technology and strategies for increasing engagement in the classroom, but on Oct. 20 the they stepped out to reach students in a unique way.

During lunch students were able to visit stations in the cafeteria featuring online music creation tools, augmented reality tools, virtual reality tools, and an invention kit called Makey Makey.

The students were invited to explore the tools after they had finished eating their lunch, and many students shared the team’s enthusiasm for the technology.

“We heard several students say things like ‘I might be late for class, but this was really cool!’ and ‘Where can I buy one of these for my house?,’” said Digital Learning Team member Amy Stanley.

The Digital Learning team has also offered to host a “Lunch, Laugh and Learn” session for any interested school in the district and already has four additional schools that have scheduled a visit, including Smithfield-Selma High, South Johnston High, South Campus Community, and Benson Middle.
