Dogs Rescued From House Fire

A family of six lost their home in a fire Thursday afternoon in West Smithfield.

Flames broke out around 2:30pm at a single story brick home on Sunset Avenue.

Smithfield, Selma and Wilson’s Mills Fire Departments responded to put out the fire.

After extinguishing the flames, firefighters found two dogs that had apparently hidden under a bed and survived the fire, despite the heat and heavy smoke.

The family was very happy to see firefighters come out of the home with their dogs.

The Red Cross is assisting the two adults and 4 children displaced by the fire.

The fire was ruled accidental by the Johnston County Fire Marshal’s Office due to an unattended outside fire. No injuries were reported.
