Donations Being Raised For Funeral Expenses For Children Who Died In Flooding

In less than 24 hours, a GoFundMe account has raised more than $23,000 for two children who died tragically this week.  Five year-old Alexa Castro and her four year-old brother, Abraham Martinez Jr., were riding with their mother on Galilee Road near Smithfield Monday night when floodwaters swept their car off the road.  The mother was able to dial 911 and summon help. She was rescued.  The children could not be saved from the floodwaters.

Using boats, search teams found Alexa’s body Wednesday afternoon.  Abraham’s body was located Thursday morning just a short distance away.

A GoFundMe page was set up to help the family pay for funeral expenses for the children.  The goal was $20,000. As of Friday afternoon, more than $23,000 had been raised.

Raqual Martinez wrote on the GoFundMe page,  ” These two little angels were called to heaven far too early. They had so much more life and adventures ahead of them… As you can imagine, my family was not at all prepared for the financial burden that comes along with a proper funeral service and burial for these two babies.. We are planning a modest but proper ceremony for these two so, every little bit helps.”

As of Friday afternoon, more than 600 people have donated money to pay for the funeral.  At last report, funeral arrangements had not been announced.
