The NC Department of Transportation plans to make safety improvements at the intersection of Cornwallis Road and Cleveland Road.  The NC DOT has received permission from the Johnston County Board of Education for a 15 foot wide easement approximately 234 feet long at the busy intersection and adjacent to Cleveland Elementary School.

The easement will allow the DOT to construct a turn lane on Cornwallis intersecting with Cleveland Road.

School Board Attorney Jimmy Lawrence said the easement will not interfere with any signage at the school and will help with congestion on Cornwallis Road in front of the campus. The school board agreed recently to give the necessary easement to the State to construct the turn lane.
