DOT Will Lower Speed Limit In Front Of School

The Department of Transportation will be lowering the speed limit in front of a local elementary school.  The DOT plans to lower the speed limit from 55mph to 45mph in front of River Dell Elementary School on Buffalo Road.  The speed limits will be reduced from just north of NC42 and ending near the intersection of Raintree Drive.

The Archer Lodge Town Council unanimously approved the speed limit reduction request when they met on Oct. 12th.  Jennifer G. Heiss, Communications Officer with the NC DOT said this will include a school zone speed limit of 35mph during school hours.

Heiss said because of the school growth there has been increased traffic and traffic issues.   As part of the new speed limit zone, the DOT will have to erect new speed limit signs. Some of the signs will be placed within the Archer Lodge city limits. In order for the DOT to place the signs within the town limits, approval was needed from town leaders.
