Downtown Crash Blamed On Impaired Driver

A two vehicle accident in Downtown Smithfield Thursday afternoon is being blamed on an impaired driver.

Smithfield Police responded to the 4:43pm collision on South Third Street about three blocks from the Johnston County Courthouse.

According to an accident report, Donna Pleasant Reisser, 48, of Sunrise Avenue, Smithfield was traveling southbound in a 2007 Chevy Malibu when her car crossed into the northbound lane then struck a car parked beside the northbound shoulder.  Police said the Malibu was traveling at 25mph at the time of impact and there were no skid marks prior to the crash. Reisser sustained minor injuries and was transported by EMS to Johnston Medical Center in Smithfield.

Damage to the Chevy was estimated at $3,000. Damaged to the parked 2011 Mercedes Benz owned by Patricia Stallings of Smithfield was placed at $5,000.  Both vehicles had to be towed from the scene.

Reisser was charged with driving while impaired and driving left of center.  She was ordered to appear in court on Oct. 23rd on the charges.
