Dozens Of Car Break-Ins Under Investigation

Law enforcement officers in three jurisdictions are investigating dozens of car break-ins committed a short time apart.

The hardest hit was Dunn. Approximately 50 vehicles were broken into Saturday night or early Sunday morning in the parking lots at the Hampton Inn, Fairfield Inn, and Country Inn & Suites.

A short time later, just over 30 vehicles were broken into at the Hampton Inn in Benson.

Early Sunday morning, approximately 8 vehicles were broken into at the Fairfield Inn and Sleep Inn & Suites in Smithfield.

Dunn, Benson, and Smithfield Police are jointly investigating the car break-ins. As many as 5 suspects are believed to have been involved.

In many of the cases, the vehicles were locked. The suspects shattered vehicle windows, grabbed valuable from inside the cars, then fled.
