Dr. P.K. Vyas Continues Tradition Of Supporting Future Healthcare Workers

BENSON, N.C. — Five local students planning careers in healthcare have received scholarships from Eastern Carolina Medical Center and Dr. P.K. Vyas.

The annual scholarship program recognizes graduating seniors from Triton High School, Midway High School and South Johnston High School who have demonstrated academic achievement, involvement in extracurricular activities and financial need while pursuing an education in the medical field.

This year’s scholarship recipients are Avery Matthews and Cameron Pope of Triton High School, Jacob Ratliff of Midway High School, and Abigail Stewart and Amiyah Grace of South Johnston High School.

Eastern Carolina Medical Center founder Dr. Pankaj K. Vyas said supporting future healthcare professionals is one way of giving back to the communities that have supported him throughout his career.

Dr. Vyas established Eastern Carolina Medical Center after completing his Internal Medicine residency at Cook County Hospital in Chicago. He is board-certified in Internal Medicine and has practiced medicine in Benson for more than 38 years.

Originally from India, Dr. Vyas attended Baroda Medical College in Gujarat before moving to the United States. After settling in North Carolina, he built a medical practice that has served patients throughout the region for decades.

Throughout his career, Dr. Vyas has been involved in numerous community projects and charitable efforts, providing support and resources to local organizations and causes.

Eastern Carolina Medical Center officials said the scholarship program reflects Dr. Vyas’ commitment to investing in the next generation of healthcare providers.

Dr. Vyas congratulated the recipients and wished them success as they continue their education and prepare for careers in the medical field.
