Driver Arrested After Chase In Stolen Vehicle

CLAYTON — A Raleigh man is facing numerous charges after allegedly leading officers from multiple law enforcement agencies on a pursuit Tuesday morning in a stolen vehicle.

Clayton Police initially attempted to stop a stolen Honda Pilot, however the driver refused to pull over and the pursuit was terminated a short time later, according to reports.

A Johnston County sheriff’s deputy later spotted the stolen SUV traveling on Jordan Narron Road and attempted a traffic stop on Buffalo Road. Authorities said the driver again refused to stop, prompting another pursuit.

During the chase, the North Carolina State Highway Patrol attempted a PIT maneuver but was unsuccessful.

Officials said the suspect made several U-turns while traveling on multiple roadways and at one point drove through the front yard of a home on Cecil Road, causing approximately $500 in landscaping damage.

The pursuit ended in the 6500 block of Covered Bridge Road when the driver finally stopped.

Humberto Cruz, 21, of Raleigh was arrested and charged with felony fleeing to elude arrest, possession of a stolen motor vehicle, reckless driving to endanger, speeding, no operator’s license, injury to property, failure to stop for a red light, and resisting a public officer.

Cruz was transported to the Johnston County Detention Center where he was held under a $200,000 secured bond.

The Honda Pilot, reported stolen in Wake County, was towed from the scene.
