A Four Oaks man was arrested at the scene of a two car accident Sunday night in Smithfield. The collision was reported around 6:30pm at the intersection of North Brightleaf Boulevard (US 301) at Peedin Road.
Smithfield Police said a 1997 Honda being driven by Sean Anthony Simmons, 20, of East Sanders Street, Four Oaks was traveling southbound at approximately 45 mph in a 35 mph zone when his car drifted into the turn lane and slammed into the back of a 2004 Ford SUV waiting to make a left turn.
After the impact Simmons car traveling an additional 440 feet before impacting a curb and stopping.
Simmons sustained minor injuries and was treated at the scene. The driver of the SUV, Andrea Vanessa Altman, 51, of Eden Drive, Smithfield and three passengers ranging in age from 49 to 59, were not injured.
Police charged Simmons with driving while impaired, consuming alcohol under age 21, failure to reduce speed, and possession of toxic vapors. Police Captain R. Sheppard confirmed a can of Dust Off was seized from Simmons wrecked vehicle.
Johnston County EMS and the Smithfield Fire Department also responded to the scene.
