Two people were injured Friday afternoon when a pickup truck and passenger car collided at the intersection of E. Johnston Street and S. Second Street next to the Johnston County Courthouse in Downtown Smithfield.
The Smithfield Police Department, Smithfield Fire Department, and Johnston County EMS responded to the 3:01pm collision.
According to police, a 2008 Dodge was traveling west on E. Johnston Street and failed to stop for a stop sign at the intersection striking a 2000 GMC pickup traveling north on S. Second Street.
The driver of the Dodge, Isaiah Lathomas Watson of Selma, was injured and transported by EMS to Johnston Medical Center in Smithfield. A passenger in the Dodge was not hurt. The driver of the pickup, Ronald Emmett McKenzie of Clayton, received minor injuries but declined transport to the hospital.
Police cited Watson for failure to yield.
The intersection was closed for about an hour until the scene could be cleared.
