DUNN – A 10 year-old girl was struck and fatally injured while trying to catch a loose dog. The tragic accident happened Monday night near the intersection of Jackson Road and Spring Branch Road.
The little girl was rushed to the hospital but died as a result of her injuries.
Ronald Fox, 67, of Dunn was charged this morning (Tuesday) with felony death by vehicle and held on a $25,000 bond at the Harnett County Jail.
Around 7:30pm last night, the child was reportedly trying to catch a dog that ran across Spring Branch Road. One vehicle stopped in the roadway as the dog crossed the highway. Before the child could cross the road, and while she was still standing on the grass shoulder, a second vehicle ran off the roadway and onto the grass, jumped a curb and struck the girl and the first vehicle.
Bystanders rushed over and found the girl pinned under the car. They freed her, called 911 and prayed, according to the Dunn Daily Record. The 10 year-old died at Betsy Johnson Hospital.
A passenger in the first car was injured.
