CLAYTON – One person was critically injured Thursday morning in a single vehicle accident. The collision was reported on the US 70 Bypass at the US 70 Business interchange near Clayton.
Witnesses said a car was traveling erratically in the eastbound lanes and nearly struck a vehicle parked on the shoulder. The car then skidded off the roadway and overturned in the woodline.
The driver, the only occupant, was pinned inside the overturned vehicle. Clayton and Wilson’s Mills Fire personnel extricated the driver who was airlifted by a Duke Life Flight helicopter that landed near the scene.
The driver reportedly sustained life threatening injuries.
The State Highway Patrol is investigating.
