Driver Dies In Single Vehicle Accident
SAMPSON COUNTY – One person died in a single vehicle accident Thursday in Sampson County.
The State Highway Patrol responded to the 6:36 p.m. crash on Pumpkintown Road near the NC 24 intersection.
Troopers said a 1996 Chevrolet Lumina driven by John Rhinard Croyle, age 47, of Autryville, NC traveled left of center and ran off the road to the left. Croyle overcorrected and ran off the road to the right. The car struck a ditch and overturned in a field.
Croyle, the only occupant, died at the scene. He was wearing a seat belt.
The Highway Patrol said speed may have been a contributing factor.
Trooper W.E. Johnson investigated the accident.
