A motorist who had purchased a used car quickly called police after opening the glove box.
Smithfield Police responded to a 911 call Wednesday morning from the motorist at a convenience store on US 70 near I-95. Officers said a Maryland man had just purchased a used car in his home state before traveling south. After stopping at the convenience store in Smithfield, he opened the glove box and found a bag containing 31 grams of suspected marijuana.
Police took possession of the drugs, which had an estimated street value of $310. No charges were filed against the motorist who was allowed to continue to his destination.
