WILSON’S MILLS – Wilson’s Mills Police arrested a motorist after he reportedly sped away from a traffic stop on Highway 70.

On December 8, an officer stopped a car traveling westbound on US 70 near Uzzle Industrial Drive. As the policeman approached the car, the driver, later identified as Stephaun Dorell Morris of Sanford, sped away.

Police Chief A.Z. Williams said the chase lasted only a few seconds as Morris soon pulled over.

During a search of his vehicle, police said they found a handgun. There was a strong odor of marijuana inside the car but no marijuana was located, officers said.

Morris reportedly told police he fled because he was smoking a blunt and was concerned about getting caught.

The 30 year-old man was charged with misdemeanor fleeing to elude and driving without a license. He was released on a $500 secured bond.
