Driver Found Dead In I-40 Crash
The State Highway Patrol and Johnston County Medical Examiner’s Office are investigating a crash on Interstate 40 in Johnston County this morning. The single vehicle accident was reported at 7:13am in the eastbound lane near the 317 mile marker.
Trooper B.N. Barefoot said a pickup truck was traveling eastbound when the driver gradually went off the roadway to the right and collided head on with a tree. The 52 year-old male driver was pronounced dead at the scene. He was wearing a seat belt. Speed and alcohol were not contributing factors.
Trooper Barefoot said a possible medical condition has not been ruled out as the cause.
The deceased person’s next of kin has been notified but their name has not been publicly released.
