The NC Highway Patrol has charged a 58 year-old man with reckless driving following a single vehicle accident on Highway 96. The collision was reported at 1:50pm Saturday about 9.5 miles north of Selma near the intersection of Jordan Narron Road.

Troopers said a 2006 Ford passenger car was traveling southbound when it ran off the roadway at an estimated 55 miles per hour and struck a ditch then a brick column next to a driveway.

The operator of the vehicle, Robert Daniel Delius IV of Durham, who was reportedly traveling from Durham to Goldsboro when the wreck occurred, was transported to Johnston Medical Center for treatment of minor injuries.  He was later charged by Trooper N.A. Hocutt with reckless driving.

The homeowner said the brick wall was installed in 1964 and had never been damaged until this accident. Damage to the wall was estimated at $5,000. Damage to the car was placed at $5,000.
