Driver Killed In Crash Was Fleeing From Troopers

The NC Highway Patrol has released new information in a deadly accident two weeks ago in Johnston County.

On December 15th, a trooper attempted to stop a vehicle for speeding northbound on Interstate 95 near the 92 mile marker south of the Brogden Road exit near Smithfield. The driver failed to pull over and fled northbound in his BMW on I-95 then exited onto Brogden Road traveling at a high rate of speed away from Smithfield.

The driver, identified as 53 year-old Jerry Anderson Moore Jr. of Fayetteville, NC, lost control of the BMW he was operating, ran off the roadway, overturned several times and was ejected. Troopers said Moore, who was the only occupant in the car, was not wearing a seat belt.  He died at the scene.  Speed was a contributing factor in the crash.
