The Highway Patrol is investigating a fiery crash Sunday night that claimed the life of one person. It happened around 7:00pm in the 2400 block of Stephenson Road, off Highway 50 North of Benson.
A 2006 Ford van was traveling eastbound when the vehicle ran off the right shoulder. The driver, Michael Jason Starling, 38, of the 2800 block of Old Fairground Road, Angier, overcorrected, traveled left of center, and onto the left shoulder where the van struck a driveway culvert and overturned. Afterwards, the vehicle burst into flames.
Starling died at the scene.
Troopers said Monday it is still unclear what caused Starling to lose control of the van. There were no other occupants in the vehicle. Photo by JoCoFire.com.
