ZEBULON – One person was killed in a single vehicle traffic accident Saturday night in northern Johnston County.
The collision was reported at 10:42pm on NC 231 near the intersection of NC 39, south of Zebulon.
The Highway Patrol said a black 2008 Ford Focus, driven by Timothy Shane Bush, age 40, of Kenly was traveling eastbound on NC 231 at a high rate of speed. The vehicle crossed the centerline, ran off the roadway to the left and struck a ditch culvert, two mailboxes and a NCDOT sign. The car overturned multiple times ejecting the driver. Bush was the lone occupant in the vehicle. He died at the scene.
Troopers said the driver was not wearing a seat belt. Speed and alcohol were contributing factors, the Highway Patrol said.
