One person is dead after a car collided with a utility pole Sunday night in southern Johnston County. The fatal crash was reported on Morgan Road near Benson.
Authorities said a white Oldsmobile ran off the roadway in a curve and struck a power pole breaking the pole upon impact.
The driver, Terry Ennis, 56, of Benson, was extricated from the vehicle but died while in an ambulance on the way to the hospital.
The accident knocked out power to homes in the immediate area. Power service was restored a few hours later.
The Highway Patrol is investigating the cause of the crash.
