Troopers have released details of a high speed single vehicle crash in western Johnston County that left the driver pinned in the wreckage.

Sgt. J.L. January with the NC Highway Patrol District Office in Smithfield said the accident happened at 10:58pm Thursday on Mt. Pleasant Road at the intersection of Old Fairground Road.

Sgt. January said a burgundy Ford pickup truck ran off the road to the right and struck a tree at an “extreme high rate of speed.”
