ANGIER – Three people were injured, one critically, following a single vehicle accident in southwestern Johnston County. The 9:34pm Tuesday crash occurred near the intersection of Old Fairground Road and Zack’s Mill Road.
According to the Highway Patrol, a Chevy Avalanche being driven by Christopher William Smith, 34, of Smithfield ran off the roadway and struck a driveway culvert causing the truck to overturn in the roadway. Smith and two passengers, ages 11 and 12, were ejected. All three were transported to WakeMed.
Smith, at last report, was listed in critical condition. The children sustained serious but non-life threatening injuries.
Troopers said Smith was traveling at an estimated 70mph in a 55mph zone. Authorities said Smith and the 12 year-old passenger were wearing seat belts. The 11 year-old was not restrained. Alcohol may have also been a contributing factor.
Charges are pending.
Extreme speeding late at night, drunk, with 2 kids in the car. I would surmise from the name he is white. If he survives, rest assured he will get off a lot easier than the black 18 year old in the next story who assaulted an acquaintance. How does this stuff happen? Who is out drunk and speeding with their kids in the car at midnight in the middle of the week?
